Before he found PikeRide, Lazlo wasn’t a cyclist.
“I actually didn’t think that I liked riding bikes until I came across a PikeRide.”
He’d go about his days like many of us - commuting in a car, sitting through traffic, and returning home the exact same way. He felt something was missing.
Then Lazlo and his wife moved near a local park in downtown Colorado Springs, spotting a PikeRide electric bike share station a block away from their home. On a whim, they decided to give bikes a try and a few rides is all it took to realize what he was missing.
“One of the evenings it was nice out and we wanted to go downtown and I figured, well, let’s hop on these little bikes and see what they’re all about. Since then, I think it was maybe two or three rides later, I ended up getting a Monthly Pass and yeah, pretty much every spring, every summer when the weather’s nice, I try to keep a monthly pass going and ride as much as I can.”
What started as a simple ride turned into a whole new way of moving through the world. Biking gave him a fresh perspective on his city, his routine, and even himself. He found that bikes aren’t only about getting from place to place; they’re about discovering the joy and freedom in the ride, spending quality time with his wife, and cutting down on expenses.
“PikeRide is what showed me that I like riding bicycles.”
You can discover the joy of riding this Wednesday, June 25th on Bike to Work Day. Enjoy free breakfast stations, meet other riders, and take a PikeRide with a free 24 Hour Pass.
For many, biking is a way to feel more connected not just to the path beneath them, but to their neighbors, their city, and the everyday moments we often rush past. On a bike, you're more likely to wave to a neighbor, stop by a local shop, or discover a park you never noticed before. It turns your everyday commute or errand into a chance to feel part of your community.
Biking also supports your health and well-being. It gets your body moving and your mind clear, leading to 70% of 2024 PikeRiders reporting they experienced health benefits from riding, from improved fitness and mental health to improved access to healthy food and essentials. Riders often say they arrive at work more awake and less stressed.
“Biking to work helps wake me up in the mornings and gives me a more pleasant and invigorating start to my work day. And biking home gives me time to unwind and decompress as I leave work. Having a bike commute is so refreshing and has made a world of difference in my day-to-day life!” - 2024 Rider
